Clinical & Performance Exercise Strategy

A virtual, one-to-one approach to making sense of your health, fitness, and exercise needs. We’ll work together with the end goal of turning your needs and goals into a clear and realistic plan of action with personalized programming, based on your physiology.

As a Clinical Exercise Physiologist (CSEP-CEP), this service is commonly used for returning to exercise after extended breaks, advanced athletic goals, or as a bridge between medical treatment and long-term, independent exercise. Specifically for those with a more complicated training or clinical history.

What is a Clinical Exercise Physiologist?

A Clinical Exercise Physiologist is a university-trained healthcare professional who specializes in using exercise as both a therapeutic and performance tool.

To become a CSEP-CEP, individuals must:

  • Hold a bachelors degree in an exercise science or closely related field, with specific course work

  • 600 hours of supervised clinical experience with an approved professional

  • Pass both a written theory exam and a practical skills exam

  • Engage in ongoing education to stay current with evolving clinical guidelines

CEPs often work in both elite performance settings, and alongside physicians, physiotherapists, dietitians, and other healthcare providers to help individuals safely manage chronic conditions or progress beyond rehabilitation.

Testing That Informs Your Care

Through my partnership with nurse practitioners at niahealth, you can access comprehensive biomarker and clinical testing as needed alongside your exercise physiology assessment. This includes measures such as organ, hormonal, and metabolic health; VO₂ max, body composition, and resting metabolic rate. This provides additional objective information to better understand your health, fitness, and physiology.

What to Expect From Your Session

1. Pre-consultation Information Gathering

After our intitial meeting, you’ll complete an intake form and preliminary assessments depending on what you’re interested in assessing that may include:

  • Medical and Exercise History

  • Biomechanics

  • Body Composition

  • Relevant Biomarker Analysis

  • VO2 max

This allows the consultation itself to be focused and meaningful.

2. One-hour CEP Strategy Consultation

This is not a rushed call and not a sales conversation.

During the session, we will:

  • Clarify your goals and expectations

  • Discuss any relevant information from your information gathering

  • Address any barriers to exercise, uncertainty, or conflicting advice you may have recieved

  • Work on both a long-term and short-term action plan to streamline your path.

This is collaborative counselling, not perscriptive or judgemental.

3. Personalized Action Plan

Following the consultation, you’ll recieve a clear, written action plan in a format that works best for you. This will outline:

  • Appropriate priorities for exercise

  • Considerations for progression and safety

  • Recomendations for training structure, and frequency

  • Planning for ongoing assessment and relevent testing

  • Formal programming
